Trail Report

___________________________________________________________________

March 23, 2017

Hi Gang,

Just a note to let you know that there is still some riding to be had in our area, although the Snowgang is NOT groooming at this time. Both ITS #83 – Sherman/Whetstone and ITS#81 – Sherman/Benedicta/Mattawamkeag Cutoff were groomed last weekend and have held up fairly well. Please be aware that Spring riding conditions do exist especially on ITS#83 as waterholes are starting to open up more. Riders need to use caution and SLOW DOWN for existing conditions. Remember, good conditions still exist if you trailer to Shin Pond or The Greater Katahdin Region west of Millinocket. Please keep in mind that deer, moose, and lots of other animals are using ALL trails to get around. Give them the right of way – they were here first.

Remember, deer & moose are using all trails to get around – give them the right of way!!!

Hey Gang,

We are experiencing Spring riding conditions at this time.

ITS #83 – Sherman/Whetstone Falls has 2-3 waterholes that have been cautioned.

Both ITS #81 – Sherman/Benedicta/Mattawmkeag Cutoff and Municipal Trail #70 – Benedicta/ Whetstone Falls are very in good shape, even though no grooming is being done at this time.

Remember that deer, moose, and other animals are using all trails to get around.

Hey Gang,

VP/Groomer Coordinator Stuart Kelly and wife Becky rode ITS#83 from Sherman/Whetstone Falls, and Stuart tells me that for a couple water holes the trail has held up nicely.

Of course, no grooming has been done over the last few days due the records temps. and rainy weather. We received well over an inch of rain, but had enough base to withstand it.

All hazzerds have been flagged for your safety! With that in mind Stuart hopes to have both groomers out tonight to get things fixed on all ITS trails. Hopefully temps. will cooperate and these holes can be fixed.

Remember that trails are really soft at this time so get off the throttle and your trails will last a lot longer.

Also, trails are being used by every animal you can think of – be very careful!!

Ride safely & to the right!!

Hi Gang,

In speaking with V.P/Groomer Coordinator Stuart Kelley it has been determined that this latest “mess” of snow, sleet, and rain has not affected the Snowgang trail system that much. With that being said, my trail report is as follows::::

ITS#81 --- Sherman/Benedicta/Mattawamkeag Cutoff – being groomed today, with excellent conditions.

NOTES::::: (1) All trails have some icing at this time. Corners have icing, some more than others. Also have icy patches in some straight aways! (2) With the trails as hard and fast as they are, scratchers should be used whenever possible to keep your machine from overheating. (3) Remember that deer, moose and other animals are using ALL trails to get around. It is ILLEGAL to chase,or harass any animal on the trail. (4) Remember to ride “left of center” in all corners, it is the law!!! Ride safe 7 to the right.

Hey Gang,

Temps. are in the high 40’s for the second straight day and still some rain and fog in the mix. We of the Benedicta Snowgang request that all sledders refrain from using any trails right now as riding them will only soften our base and make it that much harder to bring trails back to where they were. Temps. are supposed to get back to normal by the weekend and we are in hopes to get back to a regular grooming schedule. Thank you all for your patience and cooperation—we can’t fight Mother Nature!

January 10, 2017

Hi Gang,

With some rain coming in for the next couple of days, I can tell you that all Snowgang trails have been groomed as we wait for this event. This rain should help with our base and even make things smoother. Sledders are asked to stay off the trails until the temps. go back down to normal, or at least keep “spinning” to a minimum. As usual, remember that deer, moose, and other animals are using ALL trails to get around. Give them the right of way – they were here first!!

Ride safely & to the right!!

February 24, 2016

Hi Gang,

Just a quick trail report ----- We got 2” of snow this morning, and now it is turning to rain ONCE AGAIN!! Heavy rain is forecast for Thursday, with up to an inch of rain possible and temps. over 50 degrees. We have NO grooming being done at this time. I am NOT calling it a season yet, but we are in serious trouble snow wise. Right now it would take 12-18” of new snow to get us going and the long range forecast does not look good.

I have spoken with Matt Polstein of NEOC, and Terry Hill from Shin Pond Village and am being told that both still have some riding. At this time I would suggest that riders call ahead to where they want to ride and get current trail conditions. Please pound those boots and lets get the SNOW DANCE going again please. Ride safe & to the right!!

Ride safely & to the right!!

February 18, 2016

Hi Gang,

Due to the heavy rains over the last couple of days all grooming for the Snowgang has ceased. We will just have to wait for colder temps. and some major snow before grooming resumes. I have been in contact with Terry Hill (Shin Pond Village) and she has stated to me that there is still some riding in that area, so sledders are urged to trailer there and get your ride in.

With that in mind, I will tell all riders that the 1.5 miles of plowed road from Mattagammon Hill down to Whetstone bridge on ITS#83 is now being watched by the Maine Warden Service and riders who do not follow the signs closely with be summoned!! Saying that you did not see the signs will NOT fly with them. Riders need to stay to the RIGHT and not interfere with the logging trucks that are working!! Extra signs have been put up by the Warden Service itself ----- so beware!!!!!!!!!! Snowdance Please!!

Ride safely & to the right!!
